Feedback from Darwin
Dear Nick,
Today I received feedback from Darwin College regarding my video on ‘Risk’.
They chose not to show the video, due to a misinterpretation in a two second shot (they thought it showed male genitalia). However, I am happy that the committee got the idea with how it engages risk.
I’m glad that they found it visually interesting and clever, but am unhappy that they thought they saw genitalia, but glad it was not held against the video.
I’m also happy that they felt the video was too short, given the effect that ‘the filmmakers had run out of time’, as that was not the case.

Dear Nick,
Today Tom and I went round college and found locations to film our video for. They can be found below.
We also drew out a shot list for the video, which we will bring with us when we film tomorrow.

Dear Nick,
I made you your 30 second video! It’s choppy, and i had to remove a couple of bits altogether, but I made it just for you, even though I didn’t want to, it’s kind of dedication you’d get only from a salsa dancing partner.
I worked with Tom after I created both versions, 30 and 60 seconds, to create the soundtrack on GarageBand, and he took the lead for that. The two soundtracks are separate because of the change in pace for both videos, and I liked how they turned out.

Dear Nick,
Today I went into Cambridge to buy glow sticks for the video. I did this in the morning, and arrived 2nd lesson to film. We shot both people at separate times (Max and Tom) and at the end we got them together to shoot the final bit. Filming went smoothly, with almost no problems, apart from the first shot in the video in a toilet. People kept coming in and out, which was problematic, but we got there. Also both Tom and Max managed to get the glow stick fluid in their eyes, but they’re okay. I feel confident about tomorrow, when we will edit the final video.
Starting from scratch in the final week.
As the deadline draws closer, Tom and I have decided that the current plan is too ambitious in the current timeframe, and have decided to create a new idea that is far simpler.
Our idea is to show contamination/illness spreading and the risks people take by not washing their hands, ETC.
The video will follow someone walking around spreading whatever germs they may have. To do this we will use a glow stick cut open to visually show the spread of the germs.

Dear Nick,
Today, Tom and I shot some test footage on two separate occasions, first to try a slow motion test, as I found the camera does not have a slow motion setting, and second to try the camerawork in the final video.
The slow motion test worked well, and I feel I have strong results from my idea, and the other test footage needs to be edited tomorrow, I feel that it came out well on camera.

Camera Tests
I plan to test the HD camera today, messing with frame rates and filters in final cut, along with testing the filming style I want for the final video. This will be a good chance to see how it will cut together and direct a shorter version of what I aim to create with Tom.

Dear Nick,
Today, I worked on my blog, adding an extra post of the Plan, and began writing a draft of the backup plan, which is similar in style to the original plan. In the Media lesson, we made progress by writing a new checkpoint of our progress so far, and received two sheets for planning the project.
For the next couple of days I intend to get test footage and practice the style of video I want to create, and finalize plans to film on Friday or the weekend.
For my Resource Requirements list, I want the following Technical Equipment:
Two HD Cameras
One Tripod
Two HD Tapes
Fisheye Lens
Firewire Cable
Final Cut
After Effects
Macbook/iMac

Plan
For my video I would like to use Free Runners, recording what they do with two cameras, one running a higher frame rate further away, and one close up with a fisheye lens. Mixing the footage of the Free Runners with talking heads and subtitles explaining what they do.
I’d like to use several effects on the video, black and white on the slow motion camera, and titles tracked on objects as the Free Runners move, with words such as ‘Risk’.
